Ana Parga
Ana studied Biology in the University of Santiago de Compostela, Spain, and started collaborating with a microbiology laboratory on the topic of bacterial quorum sensing communication. After obtaining her Masterβs degree in the same university, she followed up with a PhD focused on the role of quorum sensing in regulating oral biofilm formation, with a special interest in subverting these systems to modulate biofilm formation as an alternative to the use of antibiotics. During her PhD, Ana was funded by a doctoral scheme that granted her the opportunity of doing a research visit to Karolinska Institute, Sweden, where she studied the interaction of quorum sensing molecules on the biofilm of Enterococcus faecalis. In her free time, Ana enjoys craft projects, paddling in the Leman Lake, and a nice coffee with friends!
After her PhD thesis defence in 2023, Ana worked for several months at the University Clinics of Dental Medicine in Geneva, collaborating in a project that explores the interplay of oral microbiota and rheumatoid arthritis. In 2024, Ana received a grant from the Regional Government of Galicia to join the Kline laboratory at the University of Geneva to delve into the synergistic interaction of gram-positive pathogens Enterococcus faecalis and Staphylococcus aureus during biofilm formation and wound infection.
