Our campus on the edge of the jungle!

Do you love bacteria? Does studying their pathogenic mechanisms motivate you? Does working in a multicultural, international, biofilm-focused research institute excite you?

If so, join us! We are hiring enthusiastic and motivated postdocs to study the host-pathogen interactions of Enterococcus faecalis.

Research Fellow (Post-doc) in Enterococcal Pathogenesis

Description

We are seeking a highly motivated individual to join our research team at the Singapore Centre on Environmental Life Science Engineering at Nanyang Technological University. This post will undertake research investigating polymicrobial human infections and aims to evaluate pathogenic mechanisms used by bacteria within the host. Our studies use a variety of approaches, ranging from in vitro biofilm studies to in vivo murine models, and employ technologies including super-resolution imaging, metagenomics, transcriptomics, and metabolomics. The work will be conducted within SCELSE, which has established a strong research platform for the investigation of functional microbial communities, in both environmental and infection contexts, with a specific focus on microbial biofilms.  The center is supported by its in house ‘omics, bioinformatics and systems biology capacities as well as a range of infection models and an in-house imaging facility.

Responsibilities

The primary work undertaken in this position is to understand host-pathogen polymicrobial interactions, focusing on our model organism Enterococcus faecalis. In addition, the successful applicant will be encouraged to develop their own complementary research portfolio.

Requirements

The successful candidate should hold a recent PhD in biology, microbiology, molecular biology, or related field. Specific expertise in cellular or animal models of infection, analysis and interpretation of omics data, and/or analysis of innate responses to infection are preferred. The successful candidate will also demonstrate strong interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written.

Interested applicants should send a PDF containing the following materials to Kimberly Kline at kkline [at] ntu.edu.sg. The subject line should state “2016 Post-doctoral application”.
