Born and raised in Athens, Greece, Haris studied biology at the University of Athens and then moved to Sweden where he obtained a master’s and PhD degree in biomedicine from Karolinska Institutet. During his PhD, he developed novel tools for the study and diagnosis of bacterial infections. For his work on biofilm detection in urinary tract infections, he received a postdoctoral fellowship in 2018 by the European Institute of Technology. In 2019, he received the Wallenberg Foundation Postdoctoral Fellowships at Nanyang Technological University (NTU) Singapore to work on enterococcal biofilm-related infections in the Kline lab. Haris is a plant lover and hopes to turn his flat into a mini Garden by the Bay during his stay in Singapore.
