Pei Yi is optimist and brings her camera along wherever she goes because she likes to capture memories of the places she goes and the people she meets. Pei Yi is an animal lover, which also explains why she became a vegetarian. During her free time, she likes to play with her dog, watch movies, and listen to music. In the lab, Pei Yi is working to characterize factors that regulate virulence factor assembly in E. faecalis. Pei Yi is also one of the lab’s imaging gurus.

My project involves looking at the spatial and temporal organization of sortase assembled pili in E. faecalis. The main techniques involved in this study are immunofluorescence imaging using widefield and super resolution microscopes to examine the localization of the pili on the surface of the cell and on the cell membrane under different conditions. This study allows us to further understand and characterize the sorting of virulence factors to the E. faecalis cell wall.
